Traditional Furniture

Traditional furniture is classic and comfortable. Traditional furniture looks orderly and calm. Traditional furniture might feel outdated.

What does traditional furniture mean?
Traditional furniture is predictable. In a traditional room things are not chaotic.
There is no surprise. The furniture is consistent.
Accessories are kept in pairs in the centre of the room. Everything is of the same style.
It is casual and is usually reproductions.
Any age group feels comfortable in a traditional room.

Elements of traditional furniture:

Accessories, pillows and furniture have gentle curves. A mix of horizontal and vertical lines id used.
The material and fabrics used in this furniture neither too textured nor too shiny. Muted plaids, lain colors, florals, geometrics, understated stripes, over all small patterns and tone on tone is common.
Mid range of color tone is used. Very light and very dark colors can be used. In traditional style the flooring and upholstery is of darker hues and the walls are of lighter hues preferably multi colored florals. Jarring combinations and neon bright are avoided.

Straight axis is used to place the furniture in the room. The longest wall in the bedroom supports the bed and the sofa directly faces the fireplace.
Wooden furniture generally has curved and straight lines. Light carving might be present. Darker finish is generally given to wooden furniture.
The moldings in a traditional room might have glossy white finish. Formal look is given by crown molding. Simple molding details might be present on the walls. Walls might have wall papers or flat painted finish. Ceilings have simple beams and are generally white.
The furniture in dining room includes built in cabinets for storage of chinaware. A large rug is placed on the hardwood floor. Matched chairs are placed around the rectangular table. One wall has china cabinet, buffet and sideboard.
The dressing table has a calmer and a simpler look. Tassels, fringes and trims are generally not used.
Window coverings are classics. Pleated shears and transverse draperies are generally used. Valances and cornices might be featured.
Accessories are used such as vases, china, framed prints, mirrors, plants, urns, collection of books and lamps.
Light fixtures are classic. Floor lamps and lamps with silken shades and wall scones are used. Shades are generally plain and in light tones or white in color.
Beautiful table cloth is used n dining room. Plates have simple designs and are gold rimmed. Silverware, glassware and chinaware is usually used.
